The School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences is a broadly based environmental science department. Our faculty range across a wide array of basic science from disease to statistics, from genetics to landscape ecology. What ties us together is our application of science in addressing formative societal issues facing aquatic environments: conservation and resource management, sustainable fisheries, climate impacts and adaptation, and ecosystem health. |

Intro: |
The faculty and students in Atmospheric Sciences use physics, chemistry, and mathematics to better understand the atmosphere and improve the prediction of its future state, both over several days (weather) and over much longer periods (climate). We study phenomena ranging in size from a single cloud droplet to the global-scale circulation. We offer information and expertise to the citizens of Washington while also providing leadership in many national and international research. |

The mission of the Department of Earth and Space Sciences is to further the understanding of Earth, the solar system, and their histories. The Department’s scope extends from the center of Earth to the rim of the solar system. Our faculty, students and staff examine Earth’s interior structure, chemistry, motion, and dynamics; geologic hazards; processes affecting the surface environment; the surrounding space environment; planetary processes; and geobiology. |

The School of Marine Affairs (SMA) fosters comprehensive, long-term and proactive approaches to marine policy and ocean and coastal management. It also promotes interdisciplinary education, scientific research and public service. SMA provides guidance to all levels of government in the United States and abroad, to non-governmental organizations which promotes resolution of ocean and coastal issues, and to industry by training well-qualified professionals. |

The Program on the Environment (PoE) is an innovative experiment in interdisciplinary environmental education combining natural science, the human dimension, and community-based problem-solving. PoE partners with units across the University to offer undergraduate and graduate workshops, courses, certificates, and degrees. Experiential learning in the field; active learning in the classroom; and an applied solutions capstone in partnership with government, nonprofit, or industry, are PoE hallmarks. |
