Charles Nittrouer, a faculty member in both the School of Oceanography and the Department of Earth and Space Sciences, is a geological oceanographer who studies the ways that sediment behaves in various marine environments — both the coasts and the continental margins. For his current research, he is looking at tropical delta-ocean systems in the Amazon and Mekong, tidewater glaciers in Patagonia and Antarctica, and the recently reactivated Elwha system on the Olympic Peninsula. He has been elected a Fellow of both the American Geophysical Union and the Geological Society of America, and has received many awards during the course of his distinguished career, including Shepard Medal for excellence in marine geology.
