Jerry Franklin is a world-renowned forest ecologist who has been called “the father of new forestry.” He is a leading authority on sustainable forest management and the maintenance of healthy forest ecosystems, and was responsible for integrating ecological and economic values into harvest strategies. In addition to his research, he has served on numerous committees and working groups, and has been President of the Ecological Society of America. Throughout his distinguished career, he has received numerous awards, including an Award for the Environment from the Heinz Foundation, and a LaRoe Award for lifetime contributions to conservation biology, from the Society for Conservation Biology. Most recently, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, where he has been recognized as a leading visionary in forest ecology and conservation.
